First, you need to read the official Drupal documentation here: http://drupal.org/handbooks, at least the Getting Started section. First, you need the content: articles, news, etc. Second, open your drupal installation, log in, and start experimenting with different content types: forum threads, blog, book, etc.
Then you should get understanding on how the different content types look, how they are organized. So you will know what you can do with drupal and what is not possible but maybe you will find a right module that you can install and use its features to get what you imagine.
So good luck, start from reading and experimenting.
